Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) – Aerial Mapping Project
Project Overview
The Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is one of Kenya’s flagship infrastructure and investment projects, strategically located near the Port of Mombasa. The SEZ is poised to become a regional industrial hub, hosting manufacturing, logistics, and trade operations to boost economic growth and job creation.
To support the planning and development of this ambitious project, Gledaki Services Limited was contracted to carry out high-resolution aerial mapping and geospatial data collection of the entire SEZ area.
Scope of Work
Our team executed a comprehensive aerial survey using advanced UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and drone technology to capture detailed and accurate data across a vast and diverse terrain. The key components of the project included:
-
High-resolution aerial imagery acquisition
-
Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and Digital Surface Models (DSM)
-
Orthophoto generation for planning and analysis
-
Feature extraction and topographical mapping
-
Georeferenced base maps for engineering and development use
Technology and Methodology
-
UAVs equipped with high-resolution cameras and GPS/IMU systems
-
Ground Control Points (GCPs) for enhanced geospatial accuracy
-
Post-processing using professional photogrammetry software
-
Compliance with KCAA regulations and industry best practices
Project Impact
The successful aerial mapping of the Dongo Kundu SEZ provided vital geospatial data that informed infrastructure layout, land-use planning, environmental assessment, and feasibility studies. The accuracy and speed of the mapping process significantly reduced the project’s initial survey timeline and costs.
Gledaki Services Limited is proud to have contributed to a transformative national development initiative, supporting Kenya’s Vision 2030 and regional economic integration goals.
